JCB Academy U16 Rugby vs Lady Manners School

Score: Lady Manners – 17 JCB Academy – 14
Tries: Jamie Wain x1, Penalty Try
Conversion: Tommy Cheadle x1

Wednesday 27th September saw JCB Academy U16 rugby team travel to Lady Manners School in Bakewell for the first match of the season. Overall, a fantastic effort from the boys, many of whom were playing out of position, alongside people that they had not played with before. However, this was an exciting experience for the team with lots of new, eager Year 10 players joining the more established Year 11 players.

The first half saw a very close affair with JCB being unable to convert into points many great breaks. Strong team defence saw LMS limited to one score, not converted. The second half started not so well, some rash decisions and overexcitement from JCB allowed LMS two easy tries, one converted, but this seemed to wake up our boys. The team then dominated the remainder of the second half, with the first try, from a good solid draw and pass backs play, finished by Jamie Wain, converted by Tommy Cheadle , and a Penalty try coming in quick succession, but sadly the clock beat us and we were unable to push the advantage.

A promising start to the season with lots of new partnerships beginning to flourish within the team!

Man of the match goes to Kameron Stewart – who’s solid defence saw several try saving tackles.
