Wolf Hall

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel

Wolf Hall tells the story of the rise of Thomas Cromwell, the upstart confidante of King Henry VIII and his mission to grant Henry his divorce from his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, in order to marry his new love Anne Boleyn.

Mantel writes the book from Cromwell’s perspective, which can be quite challenging especially in the first few chapters where the constant mentions of ‘he’ make it hard to follow who Mantel is writing about! But once I got into the book, it was the definition of a ‘page-turner’, especially for a history aficionado like me. If you enjoy this, try the sequel ‘Bring up the Bodies’, which documents the fall of both Anne Boleyn and Cromwell.
