The JCB Academy U18 football got underway this week with an away game vs John Taylor high School in Barton under Needwood.
Expecting a big defeat as our lads were aware of their Derby/Burton academy players, their previous success and their time to work as a team over the last few years…
It was like Man United against Stoke City, we held tight in the opening minutes with not many opportunities. As time passed we had a quick break and found ourselves 1-0 up with a super goal. Again, we battled on and quickly went 2-0 up. A great start! As the first half came to a close John Taylor scored from a free kick, then soon after, the referee awarded a very dubious penalty kick. We went in at half time 2-2.
We’d allowed them to grow in confidence and that continued in the second half with them scoring a further 2 goals. 4-2 down, we had no subs, we had to battle hard. Battle hard they did! We got ourselves back in it with 10 minutes to go at 4-3 with a great goal from great team work. Unfortunately we couldn’t convert another In the final stages of the game and it finished 4-3 but a brilliant performance by The JCB Academy U18 football team to start the season.
Well done all!
