GCSE Results 2020

Pathway to award-winning Sixth Form

Learners at JCB Academy celebrate after receiving their GCSE results.

It’s been a morning of happy and relieved faces as students at The JCB Academy received excellent and well-deserved GCSE results.

Mrs McGuirk, Principal at The JCB Academy, commented, “Following what has been an unprecedented situation, it has been wonderful to watch students celebrate their success with their families.

“I would like to pay a special tribute to teachers and support staff who have shown such dedication and professionalism to support their students and enable them to make their next steps.”

Top-performing student Jesse McNicol from Derby achieved seven grade 9s in her core subjects, English literature, English language, mathematics, French and sciences with an A* in Financial Studies (London Institute of Banking and Finance diploma), two L2D* and two L2D in engineering. Jesse is set to continue her education at The JCB Academy Sixth Form where she will study mathematics, physics and chemistry. Other top-performers included Jiss Joseph from Stoke-on-Trent and Ella Challinor from Ashbourne who will also join the academy’s award-winning sixth form. Jiss will study mathematics, physics and product design and Ella, mathematics, physics and chemistry. An aspiring future engineer, Elijah Gill from Derby will also join the sixth form where he’ll join Jesse and Ella to study mathematics, physics and chemistry. His ambition is to work in nuclear engineering to help create more sustainable energy for the future. Elijah gave up his time to produce 3D printed face protection at home during the Coronavirus pandemic which he kindly donated to various organisations.

“The success at GCSE and Level 2 Engineering has resulted in record numbers of students enrolling on to A-level and Level 3 Engineering courses at The JCB Academy Sixth Form.

“On behalf of the entire JCB Academy, I wish our students all the very best for the future.”
