Day 10: Monday 27th February 2017
After a hectic weekend, the UK learners returned to school on Monday morning where they joined the food and hospitality learners once again on an excursion to the picturesque Barossa Valley; the world renowned wine-producing region in South Australia. The excursion began with a visit to Seppeltsfield Winery, a family owned business which was set up in 1851 by Joseph and Johanna Seppelt. The UK and Australian learners were provided with a quick tour of the winery which ended with a cordial tasting session.
Staff and learners were then taken to the Maggie Beer Farm Shop where they were given a talk on the establishment Maggie Beer’s career and were provided several tastings of the delicious food and produce available for purchase; chocolate brownies made with Seville orange marmalade, vino cotto, sparkling non-alcoholic ruby Cabernet and much more. Before moving on to Jacob’s Creek, the staff and learners were taken to the local town, Tanunda, for a spot of lunch.
The day concluded at Jacob’s Creek, where all involved were able to pick and taste the wide variety of grapes used for the production of the wines available from this well-known company.
