JCB Lakeside 1 Mile Race

Annual JCB Lakeside 1 Mile Race

What an incredible Friday afternoon at The JCB Academy!

We had the privilege of hosting our annual JCB Lakeside 1 Mile Race, and it was a day filled with outstanding performances and special guests!

Not only did we have some of the fastest learners from Y9, Y10, and Y11 participating, but we were also honored to have Lord Coe and Lord Bamford join us for this fantastic event. They took the time to speak with our learners and even stayed throughout the entire event. And guess what? Lord Coe himself kicked off the race for us!

Our learners represented the academy with pride and determination, with nearly all of them surpassing their personal best times.

  • Michael (Y11) emerged as the overall winner, breaking the academy record with an impressive time of 5 minutes and 10 seconds.
  • Isaac (Y11) secured second place with a time of 5 minutes and 11 seconds.
  • Poppy (Y10) achieved greatness by setting a new female record with a remarkable time of 6 minutes and 42 seconds.

It’s worth mentioning that Lord Coe held the men’s world record three times, with a personal best of 3 minutes and 47 seconds in 1981. The current men’s record now stands at 3 minutes and 43 seconds, set in 1999 by Hicham El Guerrouj. The current women’s world record is 4 minutes and 7 seconds, set in July of this year by Faith Kipyegon.
