One of our team members recently became a parent for the first time. Sadly, during pregnancy, their son Luke was diagnosed with a rare condition called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH).
At just 13 weeks old, Luke underwent surgery to receive a tracheostomy and continues to require specialist care every day in hospital.
We are doing everything we can to help Luke and his family bring him home as soon as possible. During the October half-term, staff from The JCB Academy volunteered their time to help clear and improve parts of the family's home. We have also planned further work to upgrade the property's electrical system to support the specialist equipment Luke will need when he returns home, as well as decorating his bedroom in preparation for his arrival.

🏉 The JCB Academy 36-5 St Joseph's College
The JCB Academy's Year 11 rugby squad secured an impressive 36-5 victory over St Joseph's College on Thursday 15 October in the Schools Sports Magazine National Cup, booking their place in the second round! 🏆
JCB got off to a flying start, with Jacob E powering through the St Joseph's defence within the opening five minutes to score the first try of the game. Lenny M added the conversion to put JCB 7-0 ahead.
The Academy continued to dominate proceedings, and Jacob E crossed again shortly after the restart for his second try. Confidence grew throughout the side as powerful attacking play was matched by excellent defensive work, allowing JCB to regain possession and create further opportunities. Harry B added another try before half-time, giving JCB a commanding 17-0 lead at the break.
The message at half-time was simple: maintain the intensity, keep the confidence high and continue playing the rugby that had brought success in the first half.
The team responded brilliantly. Roclan L got himself on the scoresheet before Jacob E completed a superb hat-trick. A second successful conversion from Lenny M extended JCB's lead to 29-0.
To their credit, St Joseph's College continued to battle hard and claimed a late try of their own. However, JCB had the final say. A fantastic team move was finished by a perfectly weighted diagonal kick from Lenny M, which Zach W collected before crossing the line for the final try of the match. Lenny added his third conversion of the afternoon to seal an excellent 36-5 victory.
👏 A fantastic all-round team performance, showcasing powerful attacking rugby, outstanding defence and excellent teamwork throughout. Congratulations to all the players involved, and good luck in the next round! 💪

⚙️ Engineering, Innovation and Motorsport in Action! ⚙️🚗
Recently, a group of learners from The JCB Academy attended the Prescott Engineering & Innovation Festival at Prescott Speed Hill Climb, enjoying a fantastic day exploring the exciting worlds of engineering, technology and motorsport.
The festival brought together engineers, manufacturers, educators and students to celebrate innovation, alongside thrilling hill climb racing featuring more than 150 vehicles each day. Our learners had the opportunity to see first-hand the creativity, expertise and cutting-edge technologies that are shaping the future of engineering, both on and off the track.
We were also delighted to work alongside the Bugatti Trust Museum, who kindly provided space on their lawn for us to showcase our Greenpower car and STEM Racing projects, giving visitors an insight into the innovative work taking place at the Academy.
The event proved to be an inspiring and memorable experience for everyone involved, and we're pleased to hear that this exciting new festival is set to become an annual fixture.

Today, our learners have been taking part in open discussions about mental health, sharing ideas and suggestions on how we can continue to support wellbeing across the Academy.
At lunchtime, staff were available for learners to chat with, ask questions, take part in fun activities and simply spend time together, all in support of Hello Yellow Day. 💛

🏁 Karting Success for Ashton at Hooton Park! 🏁
A huge congratulations to Y10 learner, Ashton on an excellent performance at Round 8 of the Indi Junior Rotax Kart Championship at Hooton Park Circuit earlier this Summer.
After a full day of practice, Ashton headed into qualifying and secured an impressive P2, earning himself a front row start for race day. Competing against a field of highly talented and experienced drivers, he took part in two exciting heats where positions changed throughout the grid and every place had to be fought for.
In a highly competitive final, Ashton demonstrated great skill, determination and race craft to finish in an outstanding 4th place, earning himself a well-deserved trophy. 🏆
Having raced regularly at Hooton Park over the last year, Ashton has worked incredibly hard to learn the circuit and develop his racing skills, and it's fantastic to see that dedication paying off.
Well done, Ashton. We look forward to following your continued success on the track! 👏 🏎️
