Final Morning at Brathay
Our final morning has drawn to a close after what has been a wonderful three days in the Lake District.
Learners spent the last session completing the homing activity, working together to navigate their way back to Brathay using a map, compass, and radio. Meanwhile, the other group remained on site to take part in a range of high‑rope activities, pushing themselves and supporting one another throughout.
Mr Povey, Director of Sixth Form, shared his reflections:
“What I have witnessed over the last three days has been truly amazing. To see every learner push themselves out of their comfort zone and complete the range of activities has been nothing less than exceptional. The impact and experience will help learners bring what they have learned about themselves — and their resiliency — into their studies as they return to college next week.”

🐴Learner Success: Congratulations, Lara!🐴
A huge congratulations to Lara and her horse Dolla, who achieved an incredible 1st place in the 65cm Show Jumping class at the Trophy Show recently held at Eland Lodge🥇
This was a fantastic achievement, particularly given the exceptionally high standard of competition on the day. Lara and Dolla demonstrated great skill and determination to secure the top spot against strong opposition.
At The JCB Academy, we love celebrating successes both inside and outside the classroom. We are always keen to hear about the amazing achievements, talents, hobbies, and interests our learners pursue beyond school.

Brathay - Thursday
On the menu for today was Gyll scrambling and homing. Everyone has fully enjoyed their experience and displayed exceptional attitudes and fantastic teamwork skills. The views from the homing activity were breathtaking as they reached the summit and looked across lake Windermere. The highlight of the Gyll scrambling was learners and staff climbed through fierce water to the bridge.
During the afternoon session, this was immediately celebrated by a fly past through the peaks of four typhoon air craft. Truly breathtaking! We approach our final morning tomorrow where learners will hit the high ropes to complete a brilliant three days. ...

Staffordshire Moorlands District Cross Country
On Tuesday, The JCB Academy hosted and competed in the first Staffordshire Moorlands District Cross Country race of the academic year. It was a fantastic event and provided learners with the opportunity to experience a brand-new course around the back of our Lodge Building.
Over 300 learners from a number of schools across the Staffordshire Moorlands took part in the event.
The PE Team would like to say a huge thank you to all of the schools who attended. The standard of competition was fantastic, and all of the learners demonstrated an excellent attitude throughout the event.
Overall, The JCB Academy performed incredibly well, with our learners putting in a fantastic effort and showing outstanding support for one another. A special congratulations goes to:
🏆 Y11 – Lincoln – 1st place in the Year 10/11 race
🥉 Y10 – Jack F – 3rd place in the Year 10/11 race
🥉 Y9 – Harry L – 3rd place in the Year 8/9 race

Brathay Wednesday Evening Update
Group 1 returned to The JCB Academy at 19:00. Big thanks to Steve from N&D for a superb job transporting the learners up and down the motorway with some interesting traffic.
Group 2 spent the afternoon training for this evening’s lake exercises and taking part in team‑building activities.
This evening, learners are back out on the lake and taking part in orienteering.
We’ll be up at 7am tomorrow, with breakfast at 8am and activities starting at 9am. ...

Brathay Wednesday Update
We’ve had burgers, chips and salad for lunch. The weather has turned a little bit the sun is trying to break through.
The first groups have gone off on some more team building activities until the bus arrives.
We’ll be sending all Parents / carers a txt and an email when the first group departs and the second group start their.

Brathay Wednesday Morning
We’ve had breakfast and departed the accommodation blocks, ready for our final morning of activities. Sessions began at 9am, and learners will break for lunch at 12. Departure from Brathay will be between 1pm and 2pm.
We’ll confirm once we’ve set off. Learners will be asked to phone parents and carers when we are around an hour away from the Academy, so you can set off in good time to collect your son or daughter.
